Thank you for asking this important question.
CPT code 99213 has a time component of 20-29 minutes for an existing patient.
Florida Medicaid would pay $32.56 for this visit.
This amount needs to cover the following:
• Office rent or mortgage
• Staff salaries
• Computer system
• Staff benefits
• Equipment
• Utilities
• Taxes
• Malpractice insurance
• Supplies (office and medical)
This doesn't include that the physician gave up their twenties and has large student debt from undergraduate and Medical school studies.
This is not a sustainable pay rate, and because of this, most physicians are now employed.
Why should you care if this doctor is employed?
Now that the doctors are employed, they have to do the following:
• See as many patients as possible per hour.
• Bill as much as possible.
• Order as many expensive tests and consults as
possible.
• Spend the visit carefully entering data into the EHR
in order to optimize billing.
You have now lost a caring and empathetic physician, and your care has been monetized.
Patients must demand that physicians be reimbursed enough to maintain their independence.
This is the only way patients will get the excellent care they deserve.
Physicians belong in politics
Physicians belong in policy
Physicians belong in tech
Physicians belong in pharma
Physicians belong in finance
Physicians belong in the C-suite
Physicians belong at every table where decisions about human health are made.
• United Health will PROFIT about $22.3 billion this year.
• 50% of hospitals will lose money this year.
• 47% of US healthcare workers plan to leave within the next 3 years.
That is the current state of US healthcare, and it should terrify everyone.

@just_mindy America is not the world..
This is already the case in most of the eastern hemisphere. Western culture of prioritizing careers over family is what led to this
Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain among adults. This JAMA Patient Page describes the condition of plantar fasciitis and its diagnosis and treatment. https://t.co/jK1m1GULD8
Even worse, physician authority is steadily being eroded by the growth of the administrative state in healthcare and destruction of hierarchies which placed physicians at the top of healthcare decisions.
Physicians say they need better working conditions, less time on EHR, scribes & support staff, more efficient operating rooms, better staffing for inpatients... yet are denied by administrators. Many physicians who speak up the loudest now see their independence further cut by aggressive administrators.
Yet our accountability remains unchanged. In some states, such as California, reforms are removing tort protections for physicians, increasing our potential accountability.
The hospitals want physicians to take all of the accountability with zero authority.

Think of the risk that every physician and healthcare worker took during Covid.
It is one thing to work outside; we were inside with the sickest people in the US under our care.
Our reward is a Medicare Fee Schedule cut!!!
The Middlemen are making a fortune.
• Caremark revenues in 2023 $169 Billion in revenue
• Evernorth (ESI) $140.3 Billion in revenue in 2023.
They receive this huge amount of money as they design, direct, and oversee a drug reimbursement system!
They are the ultimate useless middlemen. They get paid billions, and we risk our lives for a pay cut.
No More!
