Two months ago I was building AI tools for myself and posting about them here. Fun, but not revenue.
Now I'm building the same tools for clients and charging for them.
The Telegram bot taught me how to connect APIs. The productivity dashboard taught me how to build useful interfaces. The client dashboards are just those same skills pointed at someone else's business.
Every "hobby project" was training for this. The tech stack is identical. The architecture is the same. The only difference is whose name is on the login screen.
If you're building AI tools for yourself and wondering when to start selling -- the answer is now. You already know how. You just haven't aimed it at someone else's problem yet.
I built AI dashboards for 3 clients in one week.
Not for myself this time. For real businesses with real ad spend.
Here's what I learned building tools for other people's money:
The biggest surprise: clients don't care about the dashboards.
They care about the AI summaries.
The charts, trend lines, real-time data -- all important. But the moment I showed a client an AI-generated executive summary that described their marketing position in plain English, with a recommended action...
That was the "shut up and take my money" moment.
People don't want more data. They want someone (or something) to tell them what the data means and what to do about it.
Very first article on X, explaining the significant impact AI has had on my agency the last couple of weeks.
I look forward to sharing more successes (and learnings) within this space.
A fun prompt I used for ChatGPT:
Give me a summary of what you learned about me this year. Include my wildest questions, the patterns and growth you saw in our conversations, and a prediction for next year.
The modern age of business.
Meta/Google ads enables early market research.
If thereโs demand, build it.
If there isnโt, pivot.
Business has changed.
When I found myself in a rut, or when business was slow, Iโd pick up the phone.
Iโd call current clients, past clients, friends; find where I can help.
Inevitably action leads to movement; movement creates motion; motion develops momentum.
Now youโre back (in rhythm).
