Our investigation into $OLEAF highlights an important risk every trader should understand before trading Uniswap V4 tokens.
The ERC-20 contract itself can look completely clean.
✅ No obvious blacklist
✅ No suspicious transfer logic
✅ Ownership renounced
✅ Scanner shows “No Issues”
✅ Buying works normally
But with Uniswap V4, checking the token contract alone may NOT be enough.
Here’s the mechanism we identified 👇
1️⃣ THE TOKEN LOOKS CLEAN
$OLEAF uses an apparently conventional ERC-20 contract. Token-level scanners therefore may not detect an obvious restriction.
2️⃣ THE CRITICAL LOGIC IS IN THE V4 HOOK
The dominant WETH/OLEAF liquidity pool is attached to a V4 Hook using beforeSwap.
Our analysis indicates that buys through this pool are allowed, while ordinary sell attempts can be rejected unless the swap comes through an authorized router.
In other words:
BUY → Works ✅
SELL → Hook checks the route ⚠️
Unauthorized route → Reverts ❌
3️⃣ THEN COMES THE DECOY POOL
Multiple additional $OLEAF pools exist, including a tiny hookless WETH/OLEAF pool.
This matters because a honeypot scanner may attempt a small test sell and discover that technically some pool allows the token to be sold.
→ Scanner tests tiny pool
→ No malicious Hook attached
→ Test sell succeeds
→ Token appears sellable
→ Scanner may show reassuring results ✅
But that doesn’t prove traders can exit through the dominant pool containing the meaningful liquidity.
4️⃣ WHAT HAPPENS TO THE REAL TRADER?
Trader buys from the main pool → tries to sell → Hook can reject the normal exit.
Alternative routing may then encounter tiny secondary pools with negligible liquidity or extreme fees, potentially creating devastating price impact.
That’s what makes this pattern dangerous:

Welcome to the club. Finally find someone smart here who is actually speaking up and exposing this stuff. This is genuinely a good post and something people should look into.
And still, projects with a working product, like what we have built so far like we have in https://t.co/AKOmKLSJ1G, barely get any attention.
But these launchpads keep launching projects with basically the same code, a few AI modifications to the UI, and somehow they’re printing money and scamming people.
And who do we blame here?
It’s not only them. It’s also users like us who keep pushing these projects without asking questions, just because we want that next 1000x quick money.
We don’t care to question things when the hype is there.
Maybe if we started paying more attention to the actual product, the team and what is really being built, instead of just the narrative, we wouldn’t keep falling into the same cycle.
