Our investigation into $OLEAF highlights an important risk every trader should understand before trading Uniswap V4 tokens.
The ERC-20 contract itself can look completely clean.
✅ No obvious blacklist
✅ No suspicious transfer logic
✅ Ownership renounced
✅ Scanner shows “No Issues”
✅ Buying works normally
But with Uniswap V4, checking the token contract alone may NOT be enough.
Here’s the mechanism we identified 👇
1️⃣ THE TOKEN LOOKS CLEAN
$OLEAF uses an apparently conventional ERC-20 contract. Token-level scanners therefore may not detect an obvious restriction.
2️⃣ THE CRITICAL LOGIC IS IN THE V4 HOOK
The dominant WETH/OLEAF liquidity pool is attached to a V4 Hook using beforeSwap.
Our analysis indicates that buys through this pool are allowed, while ordinary sell attempts can be rejected unless the swap comes through an authorized router.
In other words:
BUY → Works ✅
SELL → Hook checks the route ⚠️
Unauthorized route → Reverts ❌
3️⃣ THEN COMES THE DECOY POOL
Multiple additional $OLEAF pools exist, including a tiny hookless WETH/OLEAF pool.
This matters because a honeypot scanner may attempt a small test sell and discover that technically some pool allows the token to be sold.
→ Scanner tests tiny pool
→ No malicious Hook attached
→ Test sell succeeds
→ Token appears sellable
→ Scanner may show reassuring results ✅
But that doesn’t prove traders can exit through the dominant pool containing the meaningful liquidity.
