Was Shakespeare a single person or equivalent to a Banksy collective of artists? I'd like to think so. Looking forward to checking out Macbeth @PerthMuseumUK
The biggest buzz you can get researching history is reconnecting a lost object with its place of origin. In this case a tile stripped from a tomb in Pakistan that made its way to Perth. Loved this project.
@theohonohan@DSM888@smithmuseum I'm also keen to see how we assess accepted sources of secondary sources including encyclopedias as being authentic. Our efforts towards decolonisation embrace this. All because it's old and printed doesn't make it fact. It needs verified by primary sources.
@theohonohan@DSM888@smithmuseum It's an interesting debate, for sure. The original point was about using Google Lens to help identify a photo. I think this is pretty useful, and will help curators. There are ethics and concerns, and these need to be embedded into practice.
@theohonohan@DSM888@smithmuseum A lot to unpack there. Technology is simply a tool, it depends on how it's used. The argument was used against the internet and Wikipedia. Google search is completely AI driven (always was); are we suggesting the death of the search engine? Or do we recognise appropriate uses?
@theohonohan@DSM888@smithmuseum True. The same can be said about Wikipedia, and before that Encarta, and before that encyclopedias. None of these sources were ever absolute truths, but merely signposts to ideas. This is just another layer.
I am delighted to have written the blog ‘A Century of the Scottish Colourists’ for @NatGalleriesSco marking 100 years since Cadell, Fergusson, Hunter & Peploe 1st showed together in London. Read it here: https://t.co/fYH7Hr8nfA Image: Peploe’s Still Life, c.1913 in NGS collection
Why doesn't the Church of Scotland rack out their churches with niches and use them as crypts for local people’s ashes? There is a new Long Barrow near me that is being built for this purpose.
Discover the story of Muirton, one of Scotland's earliest post-war housing schemes.
Much of the original Muirton no longer exists, but its memory is preserved through stories.
