The #TigrayGenocide was partly the outcome of decades of framing the #Tigrayan people as enemies by the Ethiopianist elite. Today, the #Amhara people continue to be framed as enemies by certain sections of the elite, and similar patterns are emerging against the #Oromo people.
We must reject—and where appropriate, outlaw or criminalize—the use of ethnic labels to characterize culprits of past atrocities or current conflicts. Such language is not only factually incorrect; it also fuels cycles of enmity, paves the way for future genocides, and offers cover for individual perpetrators to hide behind their ethnicity instead of facing justice in a court of law.
Accountability must be individual, not ethnic.
.@MSF_EastAfrica has released findings from an internal review into who killed its staff -- Maria, Yohannes and Tedros -- in Ethiopia's Tigray region in 2021 after repeated requests for justice from the Ethiopian government failed to produce results. Here are the main findings.
🔴MSF has published the findings of an internal review into the brutal killing of three of its staff members María Hernández Matas, Tedros Gebremariam Gebremichael, and Yohannes Halefom Reda in central Tigray, Ethiopia, on 24 June 2021.

Just watched @getachewreda's interview and wow, talk about a political speed-dating record! 🙄 One minute fighting against Abiy Ahmed, next minute joining PP? I get being fed up with TPLF leadership, but jumping ship THIS fast? That's not a career pivot, that's political whiplash. Tigray deserves better than becoming a political chess piece. Lost all respect for Getch today. #MakeUpYourMindAlready https://t.co/5n8IBAiFmn ; https://t.co/26ayEc8Esu
Abiy Ahmed, through election board, bans the TPLF as a political party. This move follows a two-part, war-framing interview targeting TPLF & TDF leaders, conducted with former TPLF official Getachew Reda, now serving as a propagandist for Abiy Ahmed. https://t.co/LDruYdgozT
The Ethiopian regime, via its electoral board, has just ended the Pretoria CoHA. Every ground for a devastating war is being laid out.
Yet, the "mediators" of the Pretoria Agreement are nowhere to be seen. The @_AfricanUnion, The US (well, who would that be), and others
An unconfirmed report that today, 17 April, more than 120 civilians were killed by drone strikes in Enarj and Enwga in Gojam in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, in addition to thousands of recent killings. Time for international action to end these atrocities
I have confirmed that the regime has arrested several relatives of Lemma Megersa, the former President of Oromia and former Minister of Defense. Those detained includelude his brother, Derereje Megersa. Given that Lemma has remained politically inactive since his removal from office, the targeting of his relatives - who live in a remote part of Wollega- highlights Abiy’s growing insecurity. The harassment of his family appears to be a reaction to rumors circulating about Lemma’s possible return to active politics. They want to intimidate him into remaining silent and inactive.
Ethiopia’s genocidal government has threatened to wage war against #Tigray again in violation of the Pretoria peace agreement. The international community has to intervene & stop this bloodsucking regime from another round of carnage. @EUinEthiopia@USEmbassyAddis@_AfricanUnion
Despite the signing of the Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement, Tigrayans continue to endure mounting human rights violations. On September 12, 2024, two Tigrayan refugees at Holhol Refugee CampㅡDjibouti were unjustly arrested & forcibly taken to an undisclosed location.
