Baking soda improves exercise performance.
15-30g of Baking Soda increased athletic performance by 14% in a group of young, trained men.
This comes directly from combatting acidity in the muscles during anaerobic exercise and the production of lactic acid from the breakdown of carbohydrates.

Futures for beginners (Thread):
What are futures?
An agreement to buy/sell an asset at a certain price at expiry date. The underlying principle is similar to picking option strikes; however, there are no greeks. I like to describe futures as leveraged commons.
What kind of assets can I trade?
Futures offer a wide range of assets to trade from orange juice to crude oil. My focus is on the index futures and that's where I'd recommend most traders begin, as most will be familiar with SPY, QQQ, etc.
Why do I prefer futures vs. options?
- No greeks, specifically theta, the time aspect of the move is taken out of the equation and does not affect your risk/rewad
- Exact risk/reward, this goes back to taking greeks out, you can trade the chart and know exactly your risk/reward based on the movement in price
- Instant settlement, meaning your number of trades isn't controlled by the amount of capital you have. This is both a pro and a con, as it leads to a likelihood of overtrading.
- Longer trading hours; futures trade from 6 PM - 5PM ET Sunday-Friday, which allows you to trade outside of regular hours (9:30-4:30 ET). This is nice for those working full-time jobs that can't watch consistently at work. This also can lead to overtrading and a lack of a break from the market
- Prop firms offering low cost to entry at a higher leverage (will speak on this below).
How do the contracts work?
Similar to common shares, you're either buying or selling a certain price. The risk/reward is based on the size contract you buy, minis or micros. Minis are equivalent to 10 micros; thus offer higher risk & reward. Micro tickers are typically identified with an 'M' in front of the mini ticker symbol. Each product has a different cost per tick, which I'll go into detail below. Similar to other trading products, there are commissions/fees associated with trading futures, which varies by broker.
What are the ticker symbols for index futures and tick value?
ES/MES: SPX/SPY (tick size = 0.25, tick value: $12.50/1.25)
NQ/MNQ: NDX/QQQ (tick size = 0.25, tick value: $5, 0.50)
YM(MYM): DOW/DIA (tick size = 1, tick value: $5)
RTY(Y2K): IWM (tick size = 0.1, tick value: $5)
Can you give me an example of how you calculate risk/reward?
Say I was speculating price would go up on ES, I would go long/buy 4580 and I am looking for 5 points. Considering there are 4 ticks in 1 point (based on tick size above), I would be looking for a reward of:
5 pts X 4 ticks/pt x $12.50 = $250 (E-mini contract).
Where/how can I trade futures?
There are several futures brokers, I've personally used Tradovate in the past with a personal account, as well as Trade Aries (ran with TradeStation backend). These are lower margin requirement brokers. TD/TOS, Interactive Brokers also offer futures trading with a higher margin requirement (up front capital). There are also several prop firms that offer you to trade their capital for a low cost fee, which I'll detail next.
What is a prop firm?
Prop firms are an entity that allow you to trade a higher capital for a low cost to entry. You will have to pass an evaluation before moving onto the funded phase, where you can receive payouts. For example, a $50k account will cost between $20-300 (depending on broker and current sales), which will essentially give you $2k+_margin (trailing or EOD drawdown) with a profit target of 3k (on most brokers for a 50k account). The rules, costs, payout structure will vary by prop firm.
What are some prop firms you'd recommend?
- Apex Trader Funding (Pros: cheapest cost to entry, up to 20 accounts, best profit split, lifetime funded fee; Cons: unrealized profit trailing drawdown, 7 minimum days for evals, length to payout from start of eval)
-TopStep (Pros: reasonable cost to entry, 2 day minimum to pass eval, EOD drawdown, best payout structure, Cons: monthly fee for funded, slightly less drawdown allowed, lowest 100% profit split before 90/10)
- Elite Trader Funding (Pros: Multiple accounts types, 5 minimum days for evals; Cons: pricey without any sales going on, not the 'Best' in any category)
After struggling with options for years, futures have turned my trading journey around and made me a profitable trader in 2023. If you have any questions, just drop them below and I'll make sure to answer them!
