People w/ mental health conditions make up 53% of the population at Rikers.
On average, they are held 61% longer.
We pay $556,000 per person annually to keep them in jail. 90% on Rikers are held without conviction.
By contrast, it costs ~$42k to put them in supportive housing.

@MayorOfLA@HildaSolis@ThePplConcern@HACLA1938 Thank you for prioritizing homelessness. Please keep going! The evidence is clear that affordable housing is the way to solve homelessness.
Police killed nearly 100 people a month in 2022. There were only 12 days police didn’t kill someone. The majority of killings took place in scenarios where no crime was alleged or where police were called for nonviolent offenses or mental health checks. https://t.co/1GVuyxwsVg

Why are high numbers of immigrants a bad thing? Immigrants make this country great.
