@jdpritchett@DeanTTraining One of the few times I’ll disagree with you. I always felt I looked dorky with a plate hanging from my waist doing pull-ups so I’d preferred to go heavier on the lat-pulldown.
When unbelievers visit our Churches:
-they expect to hear about Jesus
-they expect the Bible to be read
-they expect to be told how they
can know God
That's why they're there.
They can be entertained, and find life-hacks anywhere. Church is where they're hoping to find God.
@jwsherrod@AppleTV My problem with Ryan Reynolds is that he has no depth. It’s always just him, acting as himself, while saying the lines of his character.
Dudes wildly successful but also the definition of a one trick pony.
Non-Calvinist Christian: Brother, I’m struggling to understand your interpretation of election, predestination and regeneration. Can you show me more Scriptures that establish it?
Calvinist Christian: You need to read Calvin’s Institutes. Then Owen. Sproul. MacArthur. Piper. Edwards would help too.
Non-Calvinist Christian: Okay…but can we first walk through it from the Bible itself? Isn’t Scripture sufficient to establish biblical doctrine?
Calvinist Christian: You won’t understand these things properly until you’ve read the right theologians.
The Bereans quietly enter the conversation: “They searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Acts 17:11 😂
Read theological books. I do, and they can be enormously helpful. But never let anyone convince you that you need their theological library before you are qualified to understand Scripture.
Jesus explained Scripture with Scripture. The apostles reasoned from Scripture. The Bereans tested even apostolic preaching by Scripture.
A good theological book should send you back to the Bible, not make you dependent upon the book to understand the Bible.
If a doctrine is truly biblical, asking “Show me from Scripture” should never be treated as intellectual deficiency.
It should be welcomed.
@PreachGaming@TheChunkeyNinja Tell me you don’t live in Tornado Alley without telling me you don’t live in Tornado Alley… Wind is the only element that makes me take my kids to the basement for shelter multiple times a year.
I attended a ceremony at an American high school at which students announced where they were going after graduation.
There was a table. There were caps. Parents were photographing it from the aisle. I assumed it was athletics, because I had seen this before, and I was wrong about four of the seven.
The first boy signed with a university for football. Applause.
The second boy signed with a company that installs heating and cooling systems. The same table. The same cap, except with a company logo on it. The same applause. Somebody's grandmother had a sign.
I asked the woman beside me whether this was a joke.
She said, "Why would it be a joke?"
I asked whether this is normal.
She said, "It is now."
A girl signed with an electrical apprenticeship. Four years, paid, and she will owe nothing at the end of it. Her father was crying in a manner he was not attempting to conceal, and two men shook his hand while he did it, and nobody looked away and nobody turned it into a moment.
I said to the woman that a province which puts a boy who will spend his life crawling through the ceilings of buildings on the same stage, on the same day, under the same lights, as the boy who will play a game on television, and which does not distinguish between them in the volume of its applause, has made a decision about what work is that my country announces constantly and has never once managed to demonstrate.
She said, "He got a job. That's the whole thing."
He got a job. That is the whole thing.
The welding student was last. He signed with a shop about nine miles from the school. His name was announced along with the name of the shop and the name of the man who owns it.
The man who owns it was in the audience.
He stood up when they said his name, and he did not sit back down until the boy had finished signing.
The good news for @Buccaneers is that @bakermayfield is the type of guy to take this contract situation very personally and then let it rip on the field…
@DPGBehler My wife lived two states away from me. We were both divorced with kids. We courted and felt God calling us to be together so she moved. It was really that easy but in hindsight it almost was. Today is our second wedding anniversary. God has a plan, just stay faithful.
