A second post this week for the #orchidchallenge, common spotted-orchid and pyramidal orchid from my walk today at Streatley (W. Berks). #wildflowerhour
Spotted-orchids of varying appearances at Ashford Hill Meadows (N. Hants) this week. Google image search gives two of them as heath-spotted and one (the second) as common-spotted - hmm. #orchidchallenge#wildflowerhour
Some flowers thriving in still damp habitats at Ashford Hill Meadows (N Hants) this week - water forget-me-not, brooklime, tufted forget-me-not (I think) and bog stitchwort. #wildflowerhour
Pignut (the scattered white flowers) seen widespread across the grassland at Ashford Hill Meadows this week with heath spotted-orchid, heath speedwell and cuckooflower also present, though distributed more sporadically, for the #WildFlowerShow challenge. #wildflowerhour
Two more finds from my walk today at Streatley (W. Berks) for the #tinyplants challenge - wild thyme (thymus polytrichus) and field madder (sherardia arvensis). #wildflowerhour
Three-nerved sandwort (moehringia trinervia) - tiny flowers if not the tiniest of plants - for the #tinyplants challenge this week. The leaves haveΒ 3-5 distinct veins instead of one central vein. Spotted in woodland at Headley (near Newbury), 13th May. #wildflowerhour
Fringe cups (tellima grandiflora), a new one to me, naturalised by a ford across the River Enborne near Headley (N. Hants). With thanks to @hmd_db for providing directions to find it. #wildflowerhour
Not able to get out and about at the time of the woodland plants challenge this year but, back on my feet, pleased this week to find wood sorrel, a favourite woodland flower, still in bloom in woodland at Headley (near Newbury), 13th May. #wildflowerhour
@hmd_db Thank you. I'll try again tomorrow. I failed yesterday when I had a quick look around - shows my limited power of observation! Btw that's 2 maps you've sent that include the location of houses I live/have lived in. On that theme I hope you enjoy your next trip to Carmarthenshire!
@hmd_db I have seen them in Bowdown Woods but not recently - they are particularly susceptible to muntjac browsing. Moor Copse nature reserve (near Tidmarsh) has some - but you may be too late judging by the date on the picture. Btw can you give a precise location for those fringe cups?
@hmd_db Thank you. Very interesting and informative though sadly not for me this season. I wonder if the flowers were there when I lived just to the north!
@hmd_db@hmd_db I've just done some research and realise you may be talking about Cow Hill, where both can be found. I've never seen them there but then the last time I visited may have been around 50 years ago when we lived adjacent to it and I wasn't looking for flowers!
@hmd_db@hmd_db I didn't know about any green-winged orchids in Goring. I wonder if you were thinking about the hybrid and monkey orchids at Hartslock? (I'm not too active at the moment btw - hip replacement - too much walking and bending down for flowers perhaps!)

Common stork's-bill (erodium cicutarium) from my walk yesterday at Streatley (W. Berks). Children traditionally make "scissors" from stork's-bill by sliding one long "bill" through a slit in another, allowing them to open and close. #wildflowerhour#storyplants
