If asked to count the number of times we convened at Bativa hotel in Makerere just to lay a rescue plan for the students who would be detained, I can run out of both toes and fingers.
I have said this before, but let me say it again. Rt Hon @DoreenNyanjura, HE Counsel @IsaacSsemakadde and the student leaders of different regimes deserve their flowers when it comes to rescuing student detainees.
During strikes in Makerere, a good number of students were always arrested and detained for days. I remember one evening after four consecutive days of serious striking under Bala David’s regime, drones came and hand picked all the ring leaders from each hall of residence.
I was picked from @UH_HALL and along with about 30 comrades, we were taken to Naguru police headquarters to meet the then IGP. We were numb with fright because we knew it was ending in Luzira.
Meanwhile, over 20 students, including my friend Jose, were lying in Wandegeya police station cells for striking. The IGP met with us later at midnight and initiated a sweet talk bargain so we could end the strike. We made stringent demands which included calling back the draconian policies by varsity admin and an immediate release of the detained students from wandegeya police station.
Those well versed with police operations, you know that a convict can’t be released from a cell at night. And yes, at first, the IGP also told us it was impossible. But we insisted on our demand that he made a call and ordered the release of our friends.
After a few minutes of back and forth, the IGP made a call to the OC/CID wandegeya demanding the release of all Makerere students who had been detained. Indeed the students were released that very minute, it must have been around 3am, it was even drizzling I remember.
They took us to Kabira Country Club and made it rain on us till 6am. We all got drunk and filled our stomachs with delicious buffet. Each of us with a brown envelope in pocket, a bottle of whiskey or wine in the hand and a stomach filled to pulp, we were driven back and dropped in our respective rooms.
That is how the strike ended. All ring leaders were asleep at the time of mobilizing momentum. I woke up at 11am, guys had banged my door and given up. They had no commander!
Now back to what I started with. Those days, the fraternity and leaders we followed fought the battles for us. I don’t know how many bonds and bails Hon. Nyanjura and Counsel Isaac secured each semester for the students. And somehow, it seemed like a piece of accountability from our leaders.
It is about a week since Tabz was whisked away from the public eye. I have many questions for people, the party and organizations he has been working with. What are they doing to demand the release of Tabz? Apart from posting on social media, do they have any ‘rescue’ plans and legal support meetings going on?
If Tabz can’t be fought for by the people he has been fighting for, it sends tremors of doubt down my spine. It only exposes the level of hypocrisy among our leaders. We deserve better!

When a goalkeeper makes an incredible save, I think of David Raya.
When a defender makes a decisive tackle, I think of Gabriel and Saliba.
When a player swings in a nice corner kick, I think of Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka.
When I see a manager giving instructions on the touchline, Mikel Arteta comes to mind.
Everything about this World Cup reminds me of Arsenal.
In 2013, at 31 years old, Mikel Arteta was Arsenal’s vice-captain and midfield leader.
Born on March 26, 1982, he had joined Arsenal from Everton in late August 2011 for around £10m.
He left the pitch in 2016, sharpened his craft as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, and returned to Arsenal in 2019 tasked with bringing the club back among Football’s elite.
Fast forward to today, 20th June 2026...
It has been exactly 31 days since Arsenal won the Premier League title under his management.
Next season, we’ll hear opposition managers mention “They’re the defending champions” before every Arsenal game at every pre-match conference.
Being a Champion is nice.
Morgan Rogers Update
• Morgan Rogers has given preference to joining the English champions. Other clubs are still actively in the race but acknowledge the player's current preference.
• Morgan Rogers has respectfully communicated his desire to leave to senior figures at Villa (significant).
• Personal terms have been explored and are not a hindrance at all.
• Morgan Rogers is sold on the Mikel Arteta project and plan for him.
• Morgan Rogers was on the shortlist of attacking reinforcements Arsenal discussed last summer.
• My understanding is that Villa and Arsenal are in contact through unofficial channels regarding any potential deal. Remember my words: the fee is key to this deal. The player is fully on board.
• Andrea Berta has asked to be kept fully informed about any other club making a move for Morgan. If Arsenal do make a move, there will be another update.
Chelsea, in particular, have been pleading with Morgan to showcase their plan for him, but as of today, the response is "Arsenal." Manchester United have also explored the situation of Morgan, with Carrick being a big fan.
Bradley Barcola and one other player are also of interest to Arsenal. Details on that in due time.
Arsenal are also in direct contact with multiple midfielders, as recently as a few days ago. The likes of Bouaddi, Scott, Kone, Larsson, and two others. As I mentioned yesterday, we are yet to make contact with any club officially while Berta explores personal terms with all of them. One of these players is convinced he is joining Arsenal. It's important to remember that Livramento also felt the same way, but it highlights how strong the conversations are.
Arsenal are also monitoring the Madrid midfielder situation. Tonali was offered to us in January; talks have never surpassed personal terms as of today. These clubs are using Elliot Anderson's deal as a market scale. Newcastle want crazy money, as do Palace for Wharton.
Personally, I hope its Ayyoub Bouaddi we accelerate a move for!
Taking a very short holiday. I'll be back!

Ladies, just rent a gown and do the the photoshoot. Skip the marriage. You guys don't wanna be wives. Marriage isn't about the fancy ceremony. It's about obligations to your husbands which most of you cannot manage. Didn't they tell you a husband is supposed to be OBEYED? 😄

After the intervention of the uncle that stays in Gulu, the former Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago is about to be driven to Central Police Station in Kampala and will subsequently be released on Police bond without charge!
We are all equal but…..
My friendship with @EriasLukwago has stood the test of time since 1998 in his early years as a lawyer. I accompanied him to his kwanjula and carried the kita. In 2011 when he had just become Lord Mayor, he was a special guest at my Mum’s 70th birthday. When he went to Israel, he brought for me a beautiful huge Rosary that hangs in my sitting room. I’m so distraught at the predicament he is going through.
