🌟Calling all microbiologists🦠
I'm seeking new voices to join me on the Joyful Microbe Podcast to share how microbes impact our daily lives.
Know someone who'd be a perfect fit?
Drop their names in the comments, and let's bring their microbial expertise to my eager listeners!
Very excited to share this beautiful story by @ShailabShrestha describing his surprising discovery that cell division in C. difficile occurs via a mechanism distinct from previously characterized bacteria. Done in collaboration with the amazing @SGribaldo & Najwa Taib. 1/9
Great article that talks about the different reasons for finding a postdoc and how to go about looking for the right one. There are many types of postdoc positions, academic, government and industry postdocs. Which one is right for you? #postdoclife#STEM

Mom and I do risk assessments for service dog handler access to various chem/bio laboratories. We work to change blanket exclusion policies at universities & research industries. Many labs can be accessible with small adjustments that are neither cost prohibitive or unreasonable
Really enjoyed attending (most of) this year’s #S2P2_Symposium. Awesome to reconnect with colleagues from my time at Tufts, current @TuftsIRACDA scholars, and trainees through all of Tufts Pathways programs! Always inspiring to see so many people passionate about science
It's International Non-Binary People's Day today! 🟡⚪️🟣⚫️
Thread below about non-binary identities, cisnormativity, and binaries in STEMM, with a challenge for you, day-to-day reflections, and actions in your institute, meeting and research!

@rhuttenhain If you set up a lab group, some just needs to join and you have access to their notebook. I’m at a small liberal arts college so I only have undergrads in the lab. Makes it easy to have everyone’s work in a high turn over environment
@rhuttenhain My lab also uses benchling! We do a lot of cloning and it’s nice to have sequences and lab notebook all in one place. I also find it straightforward to add images, tables, and link in other files. You can also add to do lists and check off items and attach protocols to entries
I'll be honest, the argument in favor of Early Career Investigator (ESI) preferences during the NIH grant review process parallels that for affirmative action, but it's beyond me why some would justifiably support the former while being ardently opposed to the latter.
Let’s talk about Black physicians (5% of all physicians). We have statistically lower MCAT and Step scores. However, Black physicians taking care of Black patients decreases mortality. If we let less Black applicants into medical school, more patients will die.
Period.
A good reminder that you always need to keep fighting for change. Some will only change when continuously pushed. There are so many other amazing scientists out there that deserve a seat at the table
Yuck. Cold Spring Harbor Lab meeting "celebrating" 50 years of recombinant DNA is a #manel#YAMMM
With a history of issues in sexism (e.g. Watson) at CSHL this is sad. And bonus featuring Lander w/ his own history of issues as session chair & panel discussion leader
