ESPECIALLY... when Dipper and Mabel had literally not competed in anything up to this point. Meaning him "not keeping tally" before now... literally means nothing.

What is it meant to show? Just how much Dipper loves to beat Mabel in intellectual games. Not just chess- dozens of tally marks for three other things. Not hard to believe he likes to win-

People talk about the puppet episode or the love potion episode, but Little Dipper is the one that made me start to realize the show has a lot of favoritism for Mabel.

Mabel dogpiles her teasing onto Dipper all throughout the episode, and this is not the only time she does stuff like this. Then, when Dipper confronts her about it, the episode tries to justify her actions by saying Dipper's always holding his superiority over Mabel, which we do not see him do, they literally make that character trait up right then and there.

The one time we actually see Dipper tally his score is in THIS episode and he doesn't "rub it in Mabel's face" like the episode claims. He marks the score down, gives himself a cheer and then moves on.

In fact, when Dipper gets the shrink-grow crystal, he's perfectly content with being the same height as Mabel because he just wants the teasing to stop. He only makes himself taller than her when Mabel continues teasing him anyway. If he were always holding his victories over Mabel, would it not make more sense to have him make himself taller in the first place?

And what's worse is, after Dipper learns to accept that Mabel is taller than him, she STILL teases him about being short.

The episode wants to teach lessons of "don't hold your victories over someone else's head" and "don't let others' superiority get to you", but it's teaching them to the wrong person.

Mabel clearly needed to learn these lessons, but instead the episode gives her zero arc and forces growth onto Dipper that he didn't need, in order to validate his sister.

I thought people’s issue with it was that it felt hollow because Carol was presented as so utterly OP that it felt silly to act like she needed their help.

the hate the “she’s got help” scene gets genuinely irritates me because it meant the absolute world to 14 y/o me. when thor, tony and steve team up, it’s “peak,” but when the strongest women in the mcu finally get their moment, suddenly it’s “cringe.”
