@JohanDe56916378@_AlexBywater@MailSport Maybe they are proud of their roots and want to represent Scotland. Listen South Africa produces quality players like no one else. Tough as nails, street smart and absolute athletes. Why wouldn’t other countries look at them.
South Africa does not own these players. They are schoolboys and amateur athletes, not contracted professionals. Unless a player is formally contracted, controlled, and remunerated through SA Rugby or a provincial structure, there is little legal or moral basis to argue that a transfer fee or compensation is automatically due when they choose to join overseas clubs.
We may not like the trend or the impact it has on local rugby, but these young players are making career decisions they believe are in their own best interests. Rugby careers are short and opportunities are limited. Good luck to them.
If South African rugby believes compensation or protection mechanisms are necessary, then the solution lies in formal development contracts and agreed regulations, not in claiming ownership over schoolboys.
