After early retirement in 2014 I now spend my days travelling, enjoying/photographing wildlife and deploring mankind's destruction of nature and the environment
I set up this account to gather & exchange information on wildlife & conservation at a time when the world was a better place. I've set up a new account @RolyOtherStuff for the (mostly) unpleasant things going on at home & abroad. This account should become a nicer place again.
King Charles who loves killing foxes, birds, and badgers has been made Patron of the RSPCA.
King Charles used his power to block a ban on Fox Hunting and to make sure it is the joke ban we currently have.
RT if the RSPCA should remove him.
@martinglester Its only the 2nd one that I've seen in Hants. I thought they'd be easy to see with the proximity to the Isle of Widget where they were released but in fact they are much more visible in Dorset, especially around Poole Harbour.
White-tailed Eagle over Ibsley Water, Blashford Lakes this afternoon caused a kerfuffle with the wildfowl & waders. Earlier a Marsh Harrier caused some disturbance, often hovering low over clear water, maybe interested in fish rather than birds ๐ค #Hantsbirding
@StephenMoss_TV@MarkAvery@BirdwatchExtra@GlobalBirdfair You're asking me for advice ๐. That's way above my pay grade. I usually take photos with my phone and keep trying until I get one that is legible. But you are still at the mercy of the X image-mangling algorithm ๐คทโโ๏ธ.

Does anyone fancy joining our lovely team at an ethical, employee-owned, ecological consultancy in Dorset? We're currently looking for a Senior Ecologist - please do circulate to anyone you think may be interested https://t.co/9Fyfyj3j97

@Seb_Elwood @LivElwood23 I notice that you don't mention seeing or hearing a Turtle Dove. I've been up twice to try to see one and not a sniff. I know they have been heard but it doesn't bode well. Hopefully your work at Wild Woodbury will attract them ๐. Good to see the orchids!
A nuthatch feeding young at a splendidly plastered nest hole and Great Spotted Woodpecker likewise at a finely chiselled nest hole. White Sheet Plantation today. @DorsetBirdClub
Case discontinued against Ruabon Moor gamekeeper Stuart Hart who was alleged to have used a trap to kill or take a wild bird (a goshawk).

In meadows alongside the Castleman Trailway at Ringwood this pigeon seemed to be thinking ๐ค:
My stomping ground has been flooded since October. It never stops raining ๐ง๐ง. I'm surrounded by ducks and geese. I'd better learn to swim ๐โโ๏ธ.
@wawlee Now that's the kind of bird I approve of. One that holds up a green flag ๐ฉ to help birders locate it ๐. Please ask it to hang around another day as I would dearly like to come and pay homage to it๐ค
No matter how well behaved, & how little risk your dog actually poses, to a ground nesting bird, your dog is a WOLF. A predator it has evolved to fear.
Adults often abandon nests, & chicks flee in terror, leaving them cold and vulnerable.
