The guests were received at the IOM Transit Centre in Kampala by IOM's Deputy Head of Operations in the Great Lakes, West and Central Africa region, Ms @mirasimovska and other staff. Ms Simovska hailed the strong relationship between IOM and @StatePRM.

@PRMAsstSec was guided around the Transit Centre, where refugees spend their last five days before being resettled to countries like the USA. Speaking to a group soon departing for cities like Chicago, Washington and New York, Ms Noyes said: "We are very happy to receive you."

She was pleased to learn that IOM works very well with @UNHCRuganda, @RefugeesUganda and the @usmissionuganda on the resettlement programme. Over the last 10 years, the USA been a leading destination of refugees resettled from Uganda.

Resettlement not only helps to extend protection to vulnerable refugees, it also helps to reduce the strain on countries with very large refugee populations, of which Uganda ranks third in the world.
