Listen to @JulieHStern. As a new teacher in 1972, I thought talking was teaching. Many colleagues understood what Julie is saying here, but "reflecting, deepening, and refining" was not on my agenda. I could talk with the best of them, and outtalk the rest of them. Thanks, Julie.
Learning is not an accumulation of facts. It’s a journey of making sense of mostly invisible patterns; reflecting, deepening, & refining what we previously thought we understood.

President Biden on treatment of Native Americans in Federal Indian Boarding Schools: "The federal government has never apologized for what happened, until today. I formally apologize as President of the United States for what we did. I formally apologize and it's long overdue."
This is leadership. The principal standing alone, supporting the band at halftime, and cheering them on as they leave the field. Well done @Jennifer_Hogan !
The hardest of decisions has been made. Tomorrow afternoon, our vet, who has been with us every step of this journey, will come to our home and help Ralph cross. Despite eating copious amounts of food, he lost 500kg in 3 weeks, down from 3kg to 2.5kg. His temperature is too low as he is too weak to regulate his body and he is showing signs of muscle weakness. Although no indicator for pain (we checked, twice), he is literally withering away and prolonging this will be completely and utterly for us, not for him and you all know by now, we would never, ever do that to our kids. He is home, on top of our warm bed and he will be so spoiled the next 24 hours. He will be hugged so much and will be told we love him until the moment he slips away in our arms
Simon and I are devastated this is happening a 3rd time this year and this has been my fear for many, many years. Thank you all for being there for us and keep Ralph in your thoughts tomorrow as he starts his journey over the rainbow bridge.
@rodjnaquin This is why I am confused about teaching "critical thinking skills." Critical thinking isn't a skill. You can't teach it like you can teach someone to play the piano. As you say, it's dynamic and unfinished. An ongoing process. Or maybe I'm being too literal.
