@danielanadj77 You were very unlucky with the timing : it was heading up to around 30C in Dublin only two weeks ago. This week has been exceptionally cold for June 🙂
@MiguelDelaney Wasn't he rumoured to have been in a foul humour before he left Dublin for Saipan though? Saipan and McCarthy undoubtedly pushed him over the edge but it's not entirely clear if he was in the right head space for that tournament.
@GE0FFGOODWIN An urban myth - Éire didn't even have any refuelling stations for submarines (or submarines in fact). U-boats refuelled at French ports or at sea from German supply ships.
@soydanovj A lot of these returning broadcasters are flat broke. RTVE's participation fee is more than ten times higher than North Macedonia and you have fans high fiving each that the Macedonians are back and the Spanish are still out.
@M_Eweda@IhabHassane That's what I'm thinking - seemed very odd to see 20 or 30 police officers with batons standing around the arrivals area of an airport.
@LordCornelius2@vintagestuff4 I believe porridge was very popular in Ireland and it was considered one of the main food staples, not just a breakfast meal.
@Cantwara_@vintagestuff4@PhillippWeyers Dinner was traditionally the main meal of the day at what is known as 'lunchtime' these days (nutritionists say that having the main meal early in the day actually makes perfect sense).
@philipnolan1 Interestingly, quite a few of the holidays featured on the show were 'domestic' locations in Britain and Ireland - it wasn't all exotic overseas places (which made sense, as air travel was very expensive back then).
@kantyvision@kamenispavac4 That is not how it works. RTBF cannot just unilaterally pull the rug from under VRT's boycott of the Contest and say "we are competing instead" i.e. effectively hijack the Belgian broadcast rights for their own end.
@vivamjm@LabourfutureUK They campaigned against it, were in opposition at the time and weren't involved in its negotiations - but somehow have to abide by the result of an advisory referendum they didn't hold and didn't want? That's a weird take on democracy.
@xela19721@FraserNelson That 'donation' of £5m seems totally off the wall. The average person is a well paid professional job would take 50 years to earn such an amount.
