Salon workers threatened over R2,500 ‘protection fee’ in Nyanga

Salon workers around Nyanga Terminus are reportedly living in fear after a group allegedly threatened workers with firearms, took some of their phones and demanded a monthly R2,500 “protection fee” from salon owners.

Authorities are urged to investigate the allegations and protect workers and businesses from intimidation and extortion.

Police Hunt Suspect Following Fatal Tavern Shooting in Kwaggafontein

Police have opened a murder case and are searching for a suspect following the fatal shooting of a woman at a tavern in Kwaggafontein B in Mpumalanga on Saturday night.

According to preliminary police reports, the incident occurred at approximately 10:30pm when two men allegedly became involved in a fight inside the tavern. During the altercation, one of the men reportedly produced a firearm and fired a shot.

The bullet allegedly struck a female patron who was not involved in the altercation. She was rushed to a nearby medical facility, where she was certified dead on arrival.

The suspect, who is reportedly known by the street name "Mashesha," fled the scene after the shooting.

Police have launched a manhunt and investigations are continuing.

Anyone with information that could assist police in locating the suspect is urged to contact their nearest police station or the SAPS Crime Stop line.
