“We don’t need this base,” the Armenian prime minister said.

He was referring to Russia’s 102nd military base in Gyumri. Russia and Armenia initially signed an agreement allowing the base to remain for 25 years, and in 2010 the deal was extended until 2044. Officially, the base is tasked with protecting Armenia against external threats.

However, according to Pashinyan, the Russians “add nothing” to Armenia’s security. And it’s hard to disagree with that.
