In poor families, girls often become financial pressure before they ever get to become adults.

That sounds harsh, but poverty is harsh.

If there is no steady income, no savings, and no work nearby, marriage can start to look like the practical answer. One less child to feed. One less person in the house.

Then the girl enters a husband’s home with no money of her own.

If he becomes violent, where does she go? How does she pay rent? How does she eat the next day?

This is why free markets matter so much for women.

A free market means she can sell, work, save, keep her money, and build a small life that belongs to her. Even a tiny income changes the balance of power.

A woman with no income has to ask permission.

A woman who can earn has options.
