People give way too much credit to running far.
It takes a lot more work and dedication to improve your time over a race distance than to be able to just go further.
If you're doing a race just to get to the finish line then aikhona I'm not impressed.
Everyone knows Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile barrier.
What most don’t know?
Two weeks before, he stopped training, went to the mountains, and didn’t touch a track.
That break may have made history.
Let’s unpack the real story behind the barrier-breaking mile:
Here are some facts:
Strava times are not PBs. PBs are only set in races based on chip times
You can’t set a PB for a shorter distance part way through a longer race unless there is a certified distance part way (v rare)
Parkrun times are not 5k PBs
Thank you
People do stupid running challenges because training for a sub 3 is harder.
I don’t care about your 10 consecutive 6 hours marathons.
Can you do it once, fast.
I said sub 3 cause I think that’s achievable for many, especially men under 40.
