In GE2019, the Tories got 56% of seats on 44% of the votes. In GE2024, Labour got 63% of seats on 34% of the votes.

We need to change this system so that seats match votes - voters should get the MPs and policies they vote for.

Just now I challenged the Chancellor on the rushed and severe welfare cuts that will hit the most vulnerable in our society. While benefit reform is necessary, this approach is ill-conceived and unfair. Balancing the nation’s books shouldn’t come at the expense of those who need support the most.

We must protect the vulnerable, not punish them. I’ll continue to stand up for a fairer, more compassionate system.
