@minnierahman As someone who works for a (relatively small) refugee community organisation - is there a way to find out if we are on the list, and to have best practise shared with us?
@LouCalvey It honestly doesn’t need to be complicated. You can buy a pre-used handset outright from somewhere e.g. Music Magpie, & then get a SIM only from Smarty or Giff Gaff. You can get good deals on both & cancel at any time. There’s no contracts to consider then.
"On average 247 Palestinians are being killed & are at risk of being killed each day. Many of them literally blown to pieces. They include 48 mothers each day, 2 every hour. And over 117 children." From the v powerful South Africa ICJ closing statement:
“It is much worse than we hear.”
Gaza is enveloped in a medical catastrophe.
These are messages from Dr Nick Maynard, a British doctor who is now in Gaza.

A few moments before the UK Foreign Secretary had said Israel should turn the water back on. Brendan O'Hara points out this is an admission that Israel has committed a war crime.
Cameron says he's not a lawyer. Then watch the response of the Permanent Under-Secretary.
Me: Tell us about the #humanitarian situation in #Sudan?
@grok:
“In Sudan, the humanitarian crisis has reached alarming levels, with over 6 million people displaced and 1.2 million fleeing the country since mid-April 2023. The conflict has led to widespread hunger, disease outbreaks, and a devastating impact on children, who now represent the largest child displacement crisis in the world.
The situation is dire. The total number of displaced people within the country to 4.57 million. The fighting has also caused a record 25 million people, half of the population, to need humanitarian aid.
Despite these pressing needs, the revised 2023 Sudan Humanitarian Response Plan appeal is only 33.8% funded as of November 12th. The international community must act to intensify humanitarian support and provide much-needed aid to the people of Sudan.
To address the crisis, a multifaceted approach is necessary, including the following:
1Ceasefire and peace negotiations: The conflict must end, and all parties must respect their commitments made at the Jeddah talks.
2Increased funding: The international community must increase funding to meet the urgent needs of the affected population.
3Protection of civilians: All parties must respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.
4Access to essential services: Humanitarian organizations must be granted safe and unhindered access to provide essential services to the affected population.
5Addressing root causes: Long-term solutions must be sought to address the underlying causes of the conflict and prevent future crises.
In conclusion, the humanitarian situation in Sudan is extremely challenging, with the conflict leading to mass displacement, alarming hunger, and a deadly outbreak of cholera. The international community must act to intensify humanitarian support and provide much-needed aid to the people of Sudan.”
Me: not bad, Grok. A little behind on the numbers, too much emphasis on Jeddah, and more could be said on local community-led responses. But not a bad start …
🔴GAZA UPDATE

People in Gaza are dying in the darkness.
This unthinkable horror cannot be undone — and history will not forgive those who refused to treat Israeli and Palestinian lives with equal worth.
Please, we need a ceasefire, now.
Here’s @jeremycorbyn speaking to @novaramedia yesterday.
His level of familiarity & understanding on these issues is unmatched by any other U.K. politician.
And on Sinai, I think he’s right. End game is as many Gazans in Egypt as possible. Egypt will then send to Europe.
Medical workers in Gaza are showing incredible bravery in the most horrific conditions imaginable.
They are calling for an immediate ceasefire & unfettered humanitarian access to Gaza.
If you can, please support organisations like @MedicalAidPal here: https://t.co/7QntLu8nkY
This is the incredible moment Palestinians pull out children trapped underneath the rubble of a house in Jabalia refugee camp, northern Gaza, after it was hit by an Israeli airstrike.
Warning: Distressing Images
More than 500 people are reported to have been killed after an Israeli airstrike hit a hospital in Gaza.
Political leaders of all parties – including my own – must call for an urgent ceasefire and an end to the war on Gaza.
More innocent lives must not be lost.
Israeli air strikes have hit Al Ahli hospital in Gaza. More than 500 people - patients, doctors & those sheltering - have been killed.
What unspeakable horror. We will mourn their loss forever.
Our leaders could have spoken up for peace. They chose to cheer on war instead.
When will they demand an end to these atrocious war crimes? How many Palestinian lives will it take to call for these indiscriminate killings to stop?
Please, for the sake of humanity, raise your voice for an immediate ceasefire. The existence of the Palestinian people is at stake.
