@danielgoyal @ProfSarahCowley However, given the party political nature of our system what this highlights is which party they are in! If someone votes against their party the likelihood is that they lose the whip.
@TwosUpJ51@LarsFJ1@MrHarryCole@Keir_Starmer Brand A. World leading. Made in Italy. Provides an optional extra made in China. 6% duty. If I want to sell brand A and offer the optional extra, it cost me (therefor you) 6% more. It’s not free trade. You can pretend I can source that option elsewhere if you like. I can’t!
@TwosUpJ51@LarsFJ1@MrHarryCole@Keir_Starmer Perhaps I was unclear, calling a free trade agreement one doesn’t make it one. It almost doubled our income in duty. So it can’t have been as free as it was before can it?
@TwosUpJ51@LarsFJ1@MrHarryCole@Keir_Starmer Because the eu company owns the brand. And I don’t want a container full of one item. I have 2 eu suppliers that we buy millions from. A small proportion of which they have made in China. I pay duty on these items where I didn’t before.
@LarsFJ1@TwosUpJ51@MrHarryCole@Keir_Starmer Those that deliberately misrepresent our FTA ignore this fact. Take any EU brand. If they manufacture in the far east (a lot) they pay the duty on entry to the EU. UK importers would pay it again on entry into the UK.
@_The_Wake@MrHarryCole@Keir_Starmer OK. If an item is manufactured in Europe and imported into the uk we don’t pay duty. If it’s manufactured in the far east for example but bought from an EU supplier we do. I now pay tariffs in the form of duty to the tune of 10s of thousands didn’t pay before!
@mattgreencomedy@jonlis1 And we didn’t think we were sticking one on the establishment then boast about the markets responding positively. Here’s a big arrow pointing to the exact moment Trump voters think they stuck it to the man.
@GoodwinMJ@pamdon18 I’m not reading all out that tbh. Got to number 2. But the first one literally says other countries in the EU and ECHR dealt with him perfectly adequately. Being in the ECHR made zero difference, it was the way we processed him.
@adamndsmith@peterjukes 6.7% is living wage increase, if their staff are paid at or close to this, they will need to increase wages by far more than the ER NI contributions. If their staff are paid much higher, not giving an increase risks losing staff, that’s the free market.
@Otto_English@FlyOnNo10Wall@LBC Was it not to foster a sense of community? To reaffirm the love of eating stuff that tastes horrible such as dandelion and nasturtiums?🤪
@HarryStebbings I call BS on that. If true, the bigger problem is min wage increase which is a far bigger %. So the tax complaint is ideological. If true 5 locations have become unprofitable due to wage inflation not tax. Which begs the question why bring that up?
