@And1129@Jsperling91 @TEAS_Actinides Holmium is one of the more stark contrasts in color. Intense pink in fluorescent light and yellow in natural light
The alexandrite effects of plutonium! In select elements, by changing the light emitting conditions, different colors are observed from the sample despite no chemical changes occurring! @Jsperling91 @TEAS_Actinides #Plutonium#colorfulchemistry#actinides
@And1129@Jsperling91 @TEAS_Actinides If you have enough concentration to see color then you should be able to observe the effect. Other elements that have the alexandrite effect are U(III)/(IV), Nd, and Ho. TM have the effect too. The namesake of the effect from the mineral alexandrite I believe is due to chromium.
@acid_angelic Absolutely. High radiation fields can degrade sensitive ligands before they even have time to crystallize. This is especially the case with our more radioactive isotopes like Cf-249 and Bk-249
@acid_angelic We are currently purifying our stock of Am-243 but in our group we make coordination compounds with actinides such as americium. We can get some beautiful crystals and a lot of valuable information from the compounds we create.
Neptunium Funtime with the @TEAS_Actinides group. This is how much Np precipitated after about 5 minutes. Excited to see what Monday brings. Photo cred: @RotermundBrian#fblockrocks
After struggling with this americium reaction for 2 weeks, I've finally got the very exciting results I was after! #fblockrocks#americium @TEAS_Actinides
