Biomass is the primary source of energy for cooking and heating for 2.5 billion people! #lesson7#Phys273 it was also the primary source of energy before the industrial revolution!
The recent oil price war and coronavirus downturn have made it clearer than ever that we need to be aggressively investing in renewable energy! Oil production in Alberta isn't profitable unless prices are high (which there is no guarantee they will be)! https://t.co/Xkwv2vXchG
Geothermal energy can play a big part in getting the world to 100% renewable energy. It's reliability and stability makes it an ideal base load that can replace fossil fuels! https://t.co/19v4PO7i5M
The Green party's plan for our energy future include's a full transition to renewables right now, no more pipelines and excuses.https://t.co/DtwZakw5VW
There's plenty of opportunity for wind energy in Canada, especially in the prairies and the north where they rely heavily on fossil fuels! #lesson7#Phys273
Bladeless wind turbines are a great new technology that can help minimize some of the risks and concerns people have with wind power! #savethebirds#Phys273#lesson7 https://t.co/k86Jl5lHyq
@Marjo75460507 @phys273_nicole I really hope so, but it would probably require a US president that actually believed in climate change and wanted to do something significant about it! not sure how likely that is though unfortunately
@NadeauChristian @nicolenads This can also be done without building more pipelines.. the transition needs to start 30 years ago, not in some future time when we can afford to? We have billions to spend on subsidizing the oil and gas industry now, but significantly less for renewables.
It's been brought to my attention that more than 3 million kids under the age of 5 die every year due to environmental factors such as pollution #Pollution#lesson10

Hydroelectric dams have significant downsides such as the initial environmental impact from flooding an area as well as the lesser known carbon leaking, which can release significant amounts of methane gas #Phys273 https://t.co/gRRzwpVWZR
Run of river is another less popular version of hydroelectricity that has less environmental impact, although it is subject to seasonal intermittence #Phys273#lesson7
@peteztsonis so true! i hope the cruise companies shut down too, because those are some of the worst ocean and world polluters. They also rarely have to answer to anybody by setting up operations and registering their boats to tax havens like panama.
