Assistant Professor of Modern European History, U of Regina (all opinions my own.) Historian of the Holocaust/the USSR/NaziGermany/Soviet Jewish life & WWII.
@waitmanb There is no monograph yet. Paula Chan just defended a dissertation about it at Georgetown. Not sure if it is available yet, but you could reach out to her. Kiril Feferman also has a 2003 article worth checking out. And people like me use it, so discuss parts of it in passing.
Another book review I wrote pre-maternity leave: Alex J. Kay's excellent Empire of Destruction: A History of Nazi Mass Killing https://t.co/i3nyDR9khq . If you have any interest at all in the history of Germany, Nazism, the Holocaust or mass violence, his book is a must read!
Popping in from maternity leave to share a link to a book review I wrote for Canadian Slavonic Papers on John-Paul Himka's excellent book Ukrainian Nationalists and the Holocaust: OUN and UPA’s Participation in the Destruction of Ukrainian Jewry, 1941–1944 https://t.co/j8pbXHQDWr
My article "Sexual Violence under Occupation during World War II: Soviet Women's Experiences inside a German Military Brothel and Beyond," available in Journal of the History of Sexuality https://t.co/Zc49nFUxeW, connects to Holocaust/ Soviet/Nazi German history #twitterstorians
@DrOliBetts Absolutely! I have been trying to put together an undergraduate course with a similar concept for a little while - how modern warfare is depicted in video games vs. primary sources. People are learning a lot of information from games, accurate or not.
I also want to add that I think the best way to learn about the experiences of Ukrainian civilians is to listen to their own voices, including this piece I just encountered: https://t.co/hQuySRzCb0
An article I wrote about civilians in Ukraine, based on my academic research, appeared today: https://t.co/kxWjnfzuz3

I wanted to keep the experiences of civilians in Ukraine front and centre in people's minds. It is not an uplifting read, and it is not going to be news to anyone in Ukraine. My goal: to remind western readers about the urgency and the stakes of this conflict for Ukrainians.
@_edinh Saw your poll results from 2021. Infuriating. I talk about it in both my intro to European history class (1500-present), my 20th Century Europe Class, and my comparative Genocide class. I fully agree, it needs to be integrated into surveys of Europe. (Shocked more people do not.)
