Honored to receive the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal from UN Secretary-General António Guterres on behalf of the Corporal Suraj Lamichhane and Private Debi Ram Jaisi, two courageous Nepali peacekeepers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of international peace and security.
Private Debi Ram Jaisi, who lost his life while serving with UNTAET in East Timor (now Timor-Leste) in 2000, was posthumously awarded the medal following sustained efforts by the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations to secure this long-overdue recognition.
The courage, dedication, and selfless service of both the late Corporal Suraj Lamichhane and Private Debi Ram Jaisi reflect Nepal’s enduring commitment to United Nations peacekeeping. We honor their memory, along with the sacrifices of all peacekeepers who have laid down their lives in the pursuit of global peace and security.
Their legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

As part of commemorating #WorldWaterDay 2026 on the theme “Water and Gender Equality,” I emphasized that water is at the heart of sustainable development - linking our health, food systems, economies, ecosystems, and climate resilience.
Yet, billions still lack safely managed drinking water and sanitation, while climate-induced droughts and floods are intensifying worldwide.
Women and girls bear a disproportionate share of this burden. Advancing water security is therefore not only a development priority - it is a matter of dignity, justice, and gender equality.
Let us ensure that no one is left behind in access to water - and that gender equality becomes the cornerstone of sustainable water governance. #SDG6 #GlobalGoals
At the World Water Day 2026 event co-hosted by Nepal, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Senegal, Tajikistan, and the United Arab Emirates, DPR @Gyanmagarmofa highlighted the profound impacts of climate change on Nepal’s water systems and mountain livelihoods.
