I am one very happy ecologist!! The #monitoring of our #montane willows at #Corrour could not have got off to a better start today! 180 trees measured this afternoon & they are looking incredible. These Downy Willow were planted by @treesurv last year without fencing🤩🌞🌿
📢Today we announce "#Corrour X University of St Andrews": a historic 100-year partnership tackling the nature & climate emergency while delivering pioneering #research, innovation, #sustainability & ecological integrity! @univofstandrews

I recently completed a project for @NatureScot mapping relict & #restored#mountain#woodland across Scotland, covering 18,538 data points & 10,844ha. Read more & find open data download links in my @MontaneWoodland Scrubbers' Bulletin article here: https://t.co/qcsjSiAiTD
Delighted that our partnership with @EdinburghUni has been launched - with #Ardtornish being the outdoor living research laboratory, and providing space for woodland creation and restoration of peatlands. Ecological and community benefits will follow: https://t.co/g5xbCRLMp8
My day is made! One of our ecology contractors just sent me this photo of the burgeoning tree #regeneration on the open hill at #Corrour, with the tagline “a forest in the making”. Zoom in to see the #birch seedlings 🤩🤗🎉🌳 #woodland#NatureRecovery 📷 Paul Rowan
#Birch given the opportunity to thrive with upland vegetation change in response to a reduction in grazing pressure at #Corrour: see the difference in the #heather & #blaeberry cover & structure in the same monitoring plot photographed in June 2020 & 2024.
Another 1664 precious seedlings of the rare #montane tree species Downy #Willow have now been planted out at #Corrour this year by @treesurv. We're upscaling action to restore #montanescrub & facilitate the recovery of the altitudinal #treeline. 💪🌿🤩 Grown by @treesforlifeuk.
I'm repeat #monitoring my upland tree #regeneration transects at #Corrour, as part of our Ecosystem Health Indicators. I don't need to run statistical tests to know there's a huge increase in tree height over four years in the plots I've done so far. It's just so obvious! 🤗🥳🌳
How wonderful!! The first ever seed has been produced from our #montane#willow seed stand at #Corrour! I expect to see much, much more of this in the years to come, from which to upscale production of this scarce species for habitat #restoration projects. #DownyWillowSeedStand
#NatureRecovery & #regeneration in action: Previously this hillside at #Corrour had only scattered, relict trees & an overgrazed sward with few seedlings. Now, thanks to a reduction in grazing pressure, young #birch trees are emerging & the healthy woodland understory returns! 🤗
Sometimes you have to take risks for nature recovery, & #monitoring is key to mitigation. We planted 1500 Downy Willow at #Corrour last year without any fencing. This #montane species is particularly vulnerable to overgrazing, so I'm overjoyed to report a 98% survival rate! 🥳🤩
Out on the road for a couple of days with a quick stop at @NatureScot’s Creag Meagaidh National Nature Reserve. Great to talk about the community deer management project. https://t.co/hfuPLiiaBY

Even without their leaves yet, the scale of #Birch#regeneration above Loch Treig at #Corrour is astonishing. The rich soil, productive seed source & sustainable deer management is a winning combination. There's a #woodland in the making right here!🤗 #NatureRecovery#restoration
