@rosie_a_fisher And we also need to think about biodiversity in space and time over larger landscapes. The regulator for new woodland considers all these issues in deciding whether to grant permission to plant, but this is never explained in threads, perhaps because they don’t know.
@rosie_a_fisher Some fundamentals missing from the original thread though. When agriculture stops you can get colonisation of hill land by bird species that were probably not there or in low numbers before. If anything new planting land sees an influx of species absent previously.
@ArielBrunner Interesting to see what the research is, if it’s anything more than a 150m buffer around existing woodland using GIS. Any consideration of other factors that limit or support establishment from seed?
