I hate contents like this because it’s misleading and that’s what a lot of tenants believe.

He mentioned that his Landlord must give him 6 months notice to quit and he won’t pay a dime for it according to the law. From someone who is owing rent. THERE IS NO LAW LIKE THAT.

You are only entitled to 6-months notice if there is no notice period on your signed agreement. So, the Lagos Tenancy Law of 2011 made provision for a notice of 6 months if you are a yearly tenant.

But, you are not entitled to such notice if you are in arrears of rent. If you are already owing rent, even for a day, you are to get only a Notice of Landlord’s Intention to Recover Possession, which is 7 days.

You can only get the 6 months notice while you are still a paying tenant and if a part of the 6 months shoot out of your tenancy period, you will pay for that part.

You are not entitled to 6 months notice if you are owing rent. Everyone should learn. Pay rent or move. The law is simple.
