Really enjoyed this podcast interview with @dr_bandak. I’m always grateful for the opportunity to share reflections on humanitarian leadership and the work of @projecthopeorg.
Project HOPE CEO @rtorbay is the newest guest on The Scholar's Table with @dr_bandak discussing humanitarian aid, global health leadership and the people providing care in conflict zones.
Don't miss it!

It was such an honor to speak with @dr_bandak on The Scholars Table podcast. We covered everything from my unlikely shift from engineering into humanitarian work, @projecthopeorg's mission & legacy, career advice, and my favorite Lebanese dish!
He trained as an engineer and built a business in Sierra Leone.
Then he left it to work in humanitarian response.
My latest guest on The Scholars Table is the CEO of Project HOPE.
He grew up during Lebanon’s civil war and has spent more than two decades responding to crises around the world.
Rabih reflects on the experiences of health workers in Ukraine, Gaza and Lebanon.
He explains why local medical teams are central to Project HOPE’s work and what it takes to make difficult decisions before all the information is available.
We also spend time on career advice.
This episode is for students, health professionals and anyone considering work in global health or humanitarian response.

Two weeks ago, I returned to my homeland of #Lebanon to visit hospitals, meet healthcare workers, & see @projecthopeorg's programs firsthand. It was a reminder of how resilient this country has had to be. I wrote about it here: https://t.co/YG7sGqaEEK
“Humanitarian response is not about arriving with all the answers. Sometimes, our most important role is to listen, understand what is already working and find the right way to strengthen it.”
Project HOPE’s Mariia Kholostenko deployed from Ukraine to Nepal after the recent flash floods devastated communities. While her experience working in Ukraine is an entirely different emergency, she resonated intimately with the instinct to care for others, listen to those who were suffering, and support rebuilding however she could.
Read more of her moving stories of shared grief, extraordinary solidarity and rebuilding after a disaster.

A grim milestone: 10,000 confirmed #Ebola cases in DRC, the largest outbreak in the country’s history.
Every case is a person. Every death leaves a grieving family and community. We honor those affected, those lost, and the courageous frontline workers caring for them.
They deserve renewed global attention, solidarity, and sustained resources. We must turn that commitment into action.
It was an incredible honor to meet President @gogamkd in Skopje last week alongside my @projecthopeorg colleagues and our partners at BD. We are so grateful for the continued collaboration to improve the health system in Macedonia. https://t.co/A5B20qrCJi
There’s a lot going on in the world right now, so we’re here to share some spots of HOPE from our programs around the world.
Project HOPE CEO Rabih Torbay was recently in Venezuela and joined our local team to hand out hygiene kits to families.
In Nepal, our team donated and built 12 hospital beds to support the hospital’s recovery efforts after the flash floods.
In San Antonio, Texas, Project HOPE partnered with The Health Collaborative to host a free health fair, providing primary care checkups and health education to tackle high rates of diabetes.
In Ukraine, we completed construction of a new family outpatient clinic, which will deliver quality care for over 8,000 residents in the surrounding district!
Just five snapshots from our global programs, but countless HOPEful stories of lives changed!
Civilian casualties continue to rise in #Ukraine and with attacks on the energy infrastructure, 600K people are without power as temperatures drop. @projecthopeorg is helping Ukrainians withstand the winter by providing fuel & insulation materials.
Tomorrow marks #WorldMentalHealthDay. I am proud of the work @projecthopeorg does around the world - for women navigating pregnancy in #Indonesia, kids living through conflict & displacement in #Gaza, war-wounded veterans in #Ukraine, communities navigating loss in #Nepal, & more
2 BILLION people worldwide are living with a mental health disorder.
Mental health challenges affect people of every age, in every community, and in every country around the world. And the need for care is growing.
As we prepare to mark #WorldMentalHealthDay this week, Project HOPE will continue to expand access to mental healthcare for ALL, from health workers and refugees to new mothers and children living through crisis. Each program we develop and emergency we respond to includes mental health support, because we know it’s integral to primary health care.
What can you do to for yourself, your community, and people around the world?

Georgia is home to one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the US & ~50% of counties are maternity care deserts. @projecthopeorg is helping to strengthen capacity & build community partnerships to improve health outcomes for mothers & babies in GA. https://t.co/hldOtvY4wh
Tropical Storm #Isaias is forecast to become the first named hurricane in the Atlantic this season. For anyone within its potential path, it's a good time to stock up and prepare a go bag: https://t.co/t73tQslvV5
Tropical Storm Isaias has formed in the Gulf and is expected to rapidly intensify during the next few days, becoming a significant hurricane before making landfall along the northern Gulf Coast. Storm surge, heavy rain and damaging winds threaten the Gulf Coast states from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle.
I couldn’t be more proud of the @projecthopeorg team in #Ukraine who were awarded @InterActionOrg’s Disability Inclusion Award. The work the team is doing with the war-wounded is extraordinary and will change lives (and systems!) for years to come.
We are honored and proud to share that Project HOPE has been awarded the 2026 Disability Inclusion Award from @InterActionOrg for our work in Ukraine to strengthen physical and mental rehabilitation systems and promote accessibility and inclusion amid one of the world’s largest war-driven disability crises. ⬇️

I am so proud of @ProjectHOPEorg’s work around the world tackling issues related to #hunger. Sadly, this issue shows no signs of slowing down and it will take all of us leaning in to turn the tide.
Malnutrition can hide in plain sight.
Nearly 1 in 4 children in the Philippines experiences stunting. For children in the poorest households, it’s more than 1 in 3. See how we’re strengthening nutrition care in Quezon City in our latest "5 Hunger Emergencies You Should Know" story. ⬇️

I promised myself I wouldn't post about who I met at #UNGA this year, but then I had the incredible honor of spending time with people who are literally changing and saving lives in Sierra Leone every day: @DembyAustin, Dr. Mustapha Kabba & @DrMMustapha 👇🏼
https://t.co/f8aqiAyqZr
My @projecthopeorg colleagues and I are in NYC for #UNGA this week. I am really looking forward to the @ConcordiaSummit and getting face time with our partners, donors, and sector peers. If you'll be in NYC, reach out!
I wrote a piece on LinkedIn about how #Venezuela's greatest resource has never been its oil. It's always been its people. The politics between our countries are complicated, but helping people rebuild their lives does not have to be.👇🏼

The situation in #Nepal remains exceptionally difficult. A community health volunteer told us her 10 yr old son cannot sleep at night after surviving the floods. He'll repeatedly say “it is coming," sweat heavily, & become agitated. This trauma doesn't go away overnight.
Three weeks have passed since the deadly flooding in Nepal, and response teams are still operating in the most difficult conditions.
Mobile and internet connectivity is zero in many locations.
Many communities don't have running water.
Aid workers had to carry their own food so that they could serve these communities in need.
Your support is crucial to ensure our teams can stay in Nepal and continue to help impacted communities.

We could all use some joy so I wanted to share some photos of the smiles that come from @projecthopeorg's mental health & protection programs that let kids be kids - even in unimaginable conditions in #Gaza. We need more stories like this.
Today, I reflect on those who died on September 11th 25 years ago, those who answered the call afterward, those who never came home, those whose lives were changed by the wars that followed, & the humanitarians & health workers who continued to show up. https://t.co/ElMF8s2CR2
