@JoeySantore Nice!
If you’re ever in the UK and want to see behind the scenes at Kew, just shout. Although as we are probably one of the most nature-denuded landscapes on the planet, its probably not high on your hit list…
Orchidaceous day at Hartslock SSSI! Very excited to find the super rare Monkey orchid and the Lady x Monkey hybrid. Also came across the Bee orchid, Common Spotted, Pyramid and Common twayblade. #orchids#plants#flowers#nature#chalkgrassland@ukorchids
@BitterWaterBlue Is this about Eriogonum tiehmii? If so, i was watching @JoeySantore’s piece on it only yesterday. A truly beautiful species and habitat and 100% needs protection against mining interests.
Probably the highest-occuring arborescent cactus on Earth, Trichocereus atacamensis grows at an elevation of 15,000' on the volcanic soils of Northern Chile near Vilacollo, close to the Bolivian Border. Also present here was a species of Pampas grass and a species of Stevia.
Aloe season is fast approaching! This is Aloe africana - an absolute beast of an arborescent #Aloe which is easily identified by it’s upturned #flowers. #succulents#plants
@treephys Is it that the canopy interrupts the radiative cooling from the grass and so a relatively warm layer of air forms under the canopy? Or do the radiative cooling from the tree move down and warm the grass? Or something else….?
@BensBotanics2@JoeySantore puts out consistently awesome content! It is more botany and focussed on plant in habitat, rather than design but still well worth following
@GardenEclectic There is Trachycarpus in a riverside garden between The White Swan and Orleans House which has got to be around 20 meters tall - probably the biggest i have seen. Love to know how old it is….
@PlantsGrowHere There are quite a few ways trees can chemically deal with salty environments. Also general tolerance to drought is probably important, as salt in the rootzone reduces water uptake and can even draw water out of the roots via exosmosis
