Muslims in Modi’s India have been forced to learn to endure many formsof state persecution. Their very existence is questioned, their faith is seen as foreign, their patriotism is doubted, their food, livelihood, and love are criminalised, their homes and mosques are demolished, and their identity is constantly under suspicion. Even so, the “I Love Muhammad” (ILM) incident etched a new wound. It deepened a collective moral injury that found expression in widespread protests, a small fraction of which turned violent.

Human rights groups have condemned reported plans by Israel to surround part of Ketziot (Al-Naqab) Prison with crocodile-filled trenches, calling the proposal a further escalation in the treatment of Pales-tinian detainees. According to Israeli media, the Public Security Ministry has allocated approximately 21 million shekels ($6.3 million) for the project, which would involve constructing nearly 170 meters of trenches and developing plans for the care and handling of the reptiles. The proposal was reportedly championed by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Human Rights Watch described the proposal as evidence of the “normalised cruelty” within Israel’s prison system. The organization said documented allegations of torture, ill-treatment and abuse in Israeli detention facilities have persisted for years with little accountability, urging Israeli authorities to conduct independent investigations rather than pursue measures it characterized as punitive and degrading. Israel has previously denied allegations of systematic abuse and says its detention facilities operate in accordance with domestic and international law.

The reported plan has also drawn criticism from Israeli conservation authorities. The Israel Nature and Parks Authority reportedly opposed removing protections for Nile crocodiles, while rights groups argue the proposal amounts to psychological intimidation of prisoners. The controversy comes amid heightened international scrutiny of Israel’s detention practices following the genocide in Ga-za, with thousands of Pales-tinians held in Israeli custody, including many under administrative detention or security-related measures.

Security forces have detained around 3,500 suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) across Kashmir in the last 24 hours following the killing of Jammu and Kashmir Police Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Quraishi in an attack in Anantnag district, officials said.

According to officials, intelligence-based raids, searches and verification drives are being carried out across all districts of the Kashmir Valley to identify and dismantle terror support networks.

The operation is aimed at identifying individuals suspected of providing logistical, financial, communication, transport or shelter support to terrorist groups, they said.

Officials said fresh detentions were made during overnight and day-long raids, taking the total number of suspected OGWs detained for questioning to around 3,500. The verification process is continuing, and more searches are underway in several districts.

The large-scale operation was launched after Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Quraishi was shot dead near Lal Chowk in Anantnag on July 22 while he was deployed for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra security duty.

A source told The Observer Post that Delhi Police personnel were allegedly stopping young men near Gate No. 2 of Jamia Millia Islamia Metro Station and recording their names on a "detained persons" form on Friday.

According to the source, two police personnel without visible name badges had already filled out several forms by the time they arrived. The source alleged that when questioned, the officers cited the imposition of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and asked them to leave the area.
