In an earlier version, I included a section about synonyms for hiraeth in other countries - but of course, every country thinks "their" word is unique! Saudade (Portugal), sehnsucht (Germany), dor (Romanian), etc

The hiraeth thing does seem particularly strong among the Celts... took til I was nearly 40 to realise I just cannot live in England!

Why aren't we from inherited wealth ffs?!
