Sion Bridge is a small but critical railway bridge in Mumbai

It was 112 years old.

The govt realized after 112 years old that it is 112 years old and needs to be replaced.

They said it would take 2 years to replace a 60 mtr bridge.

When the Bridge was there it took me 45 mins to get to office and 1 hour to get back.

Since the bridge is demolished, I spend one and a half hours to reach office and an hour and 45 minutes to get back.

That is one and half additional hours in commute, every day, for the last two years

Which makes it 7.5 hours a week

Or 390 extra hours a year.

Which becomes 780 extra hours over the last two years

That's a 32 extra days spent on commute over the last two years.

Or one whole month.

Just on commute

This is extra or over and above the 32 days I anyway used to spend on commute in two years.

And this is just me.

And there are thousands like me

One small bridge. One massive impact.

Hope the govt completes it soon.

3 years back a colleague of mine was getting married somewhere in Bihar/MP/UP belt. And he invited the whole team for wedding. The wedding destination was 300 kilometres from the nearest airport and passed through non urban centres. One member of our team vehemently opposed this and said, “You have to be crazy to attend that wedding and take our women team mates along. If something happens or the car breaks down who is going to e responsible for their safety. I won’t let our girl team mates go there”

I am a Bhojpuri native from Ghazipur and I urge those in power to act. Ban Bhojpuri songs and movies altogether if you genuinely want women and girls to be respected in UP and Bihar. Otherwise, there is no point in chanting "Beti Bachao." These songs and movies only promote rape culture and turn men into predators.

A viral clip from Jamui showing a young woman being grabbed and harassed is ugly and indefensible. The people in that video should be identified and prosecuted. That part is not up for debate.
What is up for debate is the ritual that follows. One clip surfaces, the location is labelled Bihar, and suddenly an entire state is “BIMARU,” “uncivilised,” and, in some comments, something that “should be nuked.” That is not concern for women. That is collective punishment dressed up as morality.
Most molestation and rape cases in this country never become a 30-second video. They happen in flats, offices, autos, buses, coaching centres and family homes in every state. When there is no camera, there is no national character assassination. When the camera is in Bihar, the entire state becomes the accused. That is not justice. That is selective outrage.
People visit Delhi and NCR every day for jobs, colleges, courts and tourism. Those cities have their own long record of harassment and assault. Nobody treats every visitor as proof that the national capital should be written off as a failed society. The same standard disappears the moment the clip is from Bihar.
The incident should not happen to any girl in Jamui, in Delhi, in Surat, in Bengaluru or anywhere else. Arrest the accused. Improve policing. Raise reporting. Do not pretend that insulting 13 crore people, or telling Biharis to stay out of “your” cities, is a women’s-safety policy. If you don’t want to visit Bihar, don’t visit. Crime against women will not magically stop in the states you do visit or stay. Take a look in your own backyard before you point fingers on entire neighborhood.
