Proud to serve on the Board of Governors of Katine Technical Training Institute and to witness this historic first graduation. 🎓
As a TVET product myself, this moment is especially meaningful. I have seen firsthand how technical and vocational training can transform lives. Heko!
I was deeply honoured to preside over the first ever graduation ceremony of Katine Technical Training Institute a truly historic and special occasion in the institution’s journey.
From its humble beginnings in 1958 with only 11 trainees to a vibrant institution now serving 2,453 learners, Katine TTI reflects Kenya’s deliberate and strategic investment in skills development. This growth is not merely numerical; it signals rising confidence in competency based education and stronger alignment between training and labour market needs.
Celebrating 1,200 pioneer graduands marks a defining milestone. As the first cohort to graduate under the institute’s fully fledged technical training framework, they set the benchmark for excellence and affirm the credibility of our TVET reforms. Their achievement represents more than academic completion, it reflects the acquisition of practical, industry ready skills that carry real economic value.
I commend the institute for establishing partnerships with 40 companies under the dual training framework, ensuring trainees gain hands on experience in real work environments. This is how we build a demand driven, responsive and globally competitive skills ecosystem.
At the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, we remain steadfast in strengthening quality assurance, deepening industry linkages and modernizing training to secure Kenya’s pathway to an advanced economy.
Congratulations to the graduands. You are the promise of TVET in action skilled, innovative and ready to transform industries and build our nation’s future.

I was honoured to deliver the Keynote Address at the 5th St. Paul’s University Annual International Research Conference on the theme “Re-Conceptualizing Development Goals for Today’s Challenges and Tomorrow’s Possibilities.” Such conferences are vital engines of progress, bringing together scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to rethink pathways to sustainable development.
In my remarks, I underscored the fact that true development is not just about economic growth but about people, justice, equity, and sustainability. We must confront today’s challenges including climate change, inequality, technological disruption, and governance crises, through strong and inclusive institutions that uphold integrity, participation, and accountability.
Looking ahead, I urged that development must be people-centred and future-oriented—anchored in sustainability, intergenerational responsibility, and shared prosperity. If we align our developmental efforts with justice and inclusivity, today’s challenges can become seeds for tomorrow’s triumphs. @SPUKenya #WeAreSpu #SPUAIRC2025

🎉Excited to share some personal news: I’m extremely honored to have been nominated and selected to receive an honorary Doctorate of Science from @UWyonews and @uwyoalumni. Humbled by this recognition and grateful for the countless collaborators and mentors at every step who’ve paved the way for all of this work. Lastly, I certainly could not have done any of this without unwavering support from my wife, Ashley Smith, other family, and friends. 🙏
