According to Steiner, the Angel or Guardian Angel needs to be educated too.

It is a being, not with perfection once and for all, but one who needs to evolve, develop, and attain higher states too.
And humans are responsible for their Angel's evolution.
What humans do, or don't do, affects the Angel's further course.

Some angels have gotten too close, in fact dangerously close to the physical world.

Today many Angels have become too terrestrial.
Other Angels expect spiritual nourishment from the humans in their care.
That is, nourishment which comes from humans following their spiritual calls in their hearts.

Much today discourages from following, or even noticing this spiritual call in the heart. Distractions of all kinds, produced by the world prevent this from happening. This can lead to illnesses, as a way to withdraw from mere worldly achievements, while pushing towards "higher" goals.
The spiritual call may have been active during the youth, then got covered up.

It has to incessantly be drawn up and out, cultivated, and reconnected with.
It is a path that seems to unfold, one in companionship with higher worlds.
