@turnbjames @implausibleblog He's right. A heat pump will use about half as much energy than gas IF all the elec comes from gas. But actually it's mostly from 🇬🇧wind, so >>50% saving.
meanwhile EV is ~85% efficient compared to ~20% for ICE, so yes it saves loads primary energy, ~60-70%.

@Carsofglasgow1 2.1 miles/KWh?! That is really inefficient. Our EV uses less than half that energy, averaging 4.5m/kWh. Faster too.

Most people don't know how much cheaper electricity can be.
Eg @OctopusEnergy Agile has averaged 18.6p/kWh over the last year. That's 25% less than price cap. Shift your usage out of peak time & you pay even less.

@DaleVince Out heat pump has slashed bills. Because if you heat with electricity, you can use cheap smart tariffs that are not available for gas.
450% efficiency, ie 5.3x better than gas.
We averaged 15p/kWh last year, giving us heat at 3.4p/kWh, vs 7p for gas. So half price.
