Saw @ilovelucius at the Lincoln Theater in Raleigh Wednesday. Lucius always puts on a great show! So much fun. Loved dancing to their new songs and the rearrangements of others I’ve loved for ages. Thanks for returning to the Triangle, @ilovelucius, and for the pre-show Q&A.
In a long line at Universal Studios in Orlando. Saw folks in Tar Heel gear 20 meters ahead, and totally mortified daughter #3 by starting a TAR-HEEL call/response.

Saw @sanferminband at Haw River Ballroom and the show was outstanding. So good. Great new song. @avtate still has that voice and now he’s crushing comedy. And @stonegrldancing was breathtaking. Her violin and vocals stole the show. So good. Go see it.
As a smug European, I definitely used to think that Celsius is just a superior scale for measuring temperature. After 21 years in North America, though, I definitely concede that Fahrenheit is simply better and more intuitive for temperature.
“What the hell is going on in Chapel Hill?” New Coalition for Carolina formed to push back against partisan political meddling at UNC. Sounds like a really good idea!

This is jaw-dropping. It starts slow but watch the whole thing. I don’t think I would have been more amazed had I witnessed the first flight of the Wright Brothers. https://t.co/DweV8yjPzo
There was some raw COVID data from Israel today that was pretty scary. But when properly adjusted, it clearly shows the Pfizer vaccine is working very well. Some good news!
@donaldball Yep. They’ve seemed in a scared cringe since 2017-01. There was some of those 2 before—bureaucratic survival. But I know Great people @ FDA, NIH, & CDC. Done amazing things for humanity. Despite flaws, those insts were shining jewels helping & leading the whole world. Until TFG.
@donaldball David Wallace-Wells disagrees w/me. He reads data on infections as clear, & on deaths & hospitalizations as hints. Makes a good case, particularly if we have a strong prior that 6-12 mo is more typical second shot timing for long immunity than 3-4 weeks.

The vaccines are still performing quite well in preventing severe disease. But with Delta they are doing much worse in stopping transmission. Breakthroughs are probably now 10-20% of new infections, and perhaps as much as 5% of new deaths. A thread. (1/x) https://t.co/NvGends1ZP
@donaldball Yep. Also friends & fam w/ unvaxxed younger kids re-entering school.
And 2 of mine to UNC-CH, which just reported a cluster.
But the evidence on vaxxed infections just isn’t clear. Too many confounders. OTOH the evidence on hospitalization and death is still pretty comforting.
@donaldball Oh, I dunno. In my experience, many folks who inherited fortunes tend to think they should be teaching nearly everyone about nearly everything. Meritocracy!
