@ICEgov arrested Dinh Quy Nguyen in Houston, Texas on May 5th—ICE says Nguyen, a criminal illegal immigrant from Vietnam, remained in the community for more than 15 years despite a final order of removal and convictions for attempted capital murder of a police officer and burglary.

Nguyen was admitted into the U.S. in 1977 and convicted in 1989. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal in 1997, later upheld by the Board of Immigration Appeals in 1998.

DHS says Nguyen was previously released in 2011 because Vietnam would not accept repatriation for certain nationals who arrived in the U.S. before July 12, 1995—Policy changes under President Trump now allow ICE to deport Vietnamese nationals previously shielded from repatriation agreements.

Nguyen remains at the Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe, Texas pending removal to Vietnam.

Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis saying, “As we observe Police Week, the men and women of ICE law enforcement are removing this illegal alien convicted of attempted murder of a police officer from our communities, so he cannot victimize anymore Americans.
