Assistant Prof in Early Modern Irish Hist | Petitions; identity; war & society | @Mariecurie_alum | Book: The Old English in Early Modern Ireland @boydellbrewer
I'm truly humbled & honoured to be awarded the @NUIMerrionSq Publication Prize in Irish History for my book on the Old English in the Nine Years' War @boydellbrewer. It explores the social impact of war in #earlymodern Ireland. My thanks to friends & colleagues for their support
@macmorr1s_@TudorStuartIre@SRSRenSoc Such a fantastic project revealing incredibly important and unknown glimpses into the history of early modern Munster!
I'll be talking about the #nineyearswar 'at A miserable and beggarly war' -Dispelling the myths of Tyrone's Rebellion with @TuathaIreland on Wednesday night, there'll be Q & A at the end if you're busting to give me a hard time.
I had the incredible pleasure of presenting on an military history panel composed entirely of women speakers. Fantastic papers by @samanthalnelson and Sarah Bernhardt. Thanks @SRSRenSoc conference!
Many thanks to @boydellbrewer for including my book on the Old English in early modern Ireland on their stall at @SRSRenSoc conference this week. And great to see support for Irish history #RenSoc23. Looking forward to a great conference
And the @boydellbrewer#RenSoc23 stall is LIVE! You can find us between the coffee and the main staircase to the panel sessions. Not only do we have a brilliant online discount but the display copies are at a super special price. Pop over to the stall to find out more!
@tait_clodagh @NikkiClark86@janeohlmeyer@hiramjmorgan@neilojim1972 Couldn’t agree more with Clodagh. Irish nobles and the politics that come with it play a key role in the Elizabethan court. I have written about the Old English nobility of Ireland and their relationship with Elizabeth. Happy to share or talk more if you wish Nicola
Precautions taken to protect contents of sensitive letters. OTD 1595 cipher was sent from London for Irish dispatches. Dungannon was 'Canaan', Tyrone was Cain (bit rude) John Norreys was Scipio (bit presumptuous), but no one beats Earl of Kildare who was 'fabuloso' #nineyearswar
