Cambodians and Foreigners Join March for Peace Amid Border Tensions

PHNOM PENH – Cambodians and foreigners marched for peace under the hot afternoon sun on December 18 to show Cambodia’s spirit of peace and call for respect for the ceasefire.

Organized by the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), the event also sought to encourage full respect for the peace declaration, with the goal of achieving peace between Cambodia and Thailand.

Fighting along the Cambodia–Thailand border entered its twelfth day on December 18.

The three-kilometer march began at the night market and ended at the Independence Monument.

Residents of seven Cambodian provinces - Otdar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Battambang, Pursat, Koh Kong, and Siem Reap - were the most affected by the armed clash between the Cambodian and Thai armed forces. The number of refugees has risen to 403,601.
