In 2018, Major League Baseball (MLB) updated the definition of a fair ball to clarify that when a batted ball is in contact with the ground, it must be in direct contact with fair territory, rather than merely being over it, to be ruled a fair ball.

@MikeP0330 @TalkinBaseball_ Looks like the edge of the ball is over the line. So that’s fair. Doesn’t matter where the ball is touching the ground. If you look straight down over the ball and the edge touches the foul line, it’s fair.

@kitiwad3 @TalkinBaseball_ It looks fair. The edge of the ball looks barely over or just even with the edge of the foul line so that’s fair. It’s not where it touches the ground, Even if a single stitch is directly above the line it’s fair.

@js9inningsmedia The edge of the ball looks like it’s over the foul line. If any part of the the ball is above the foul line it’s a fair ball. Doesn’t matter what part of the ball is on the ground. If you extend the foul straight up into the air and it touches rhe ball its fair.
