The Caesar portrait draws from the marble bust by Andrea di Pietro di Marco Ferrucci, carved 1512-1514. The sides are engine-turned in a hobnail guilloché pattern inspired by ancient Roman mosaics, with red vitreous enamel and crowned by Roman scutum set with natural rubies.
We were told to use cold enamel, particularly given the risk of the panels warping in a kiln. We fired vitreous grand feu enamel regardless, and made it work.
Solid 18-carat gold. Engine-turned guilloché. Grand feu enamel. Natural rubies. Made entirely in the United Kingdom.
