-The region remains on edge as rescue crews dig through rubble and the death toll climbs

-Aftershocks like this threaten already-weakened structures and complicate search and rescue

Crews are still pulling survivors from the wreckage of the first quakes, and every fresh aftershock risks bringing down damaged buildings on rescuers and trapped victims alike.
