2,067 English and Welsh players, 89 academies and 23 competitions.
I built an agentic AI workflow using OpenAI’s Codex to help reconstruct academy histories and refined the scoring methodology.

Building this year’s TGG Academy Rankings gave the opportunity to look beyond the final table and explore the paths players took into professional football.
This was one of the findings that stood out to me: around a third of the players we studied had been at more than one academy before turning 18. The share was remarkably similar across all five English divisions.
One in three pros came through more than one Academy before turning 18.
Prem Lge: 32%. Champ: 33%. Lge 1: 32%. Lge 2: 32%. Nat Lge: 30%.
Being released is the route for a third of players at all levels.

One of my favorite stories from building this year’s TGG Academy Productivity Rankings: @CardiffCityFC ranked as the top Category 2 Academy.
A great read with more detail on the Academy’s journey and the value of giving young players genuine first-team opportunities.
"Relegation gave us the chance to press the reset button."
So says @CardiffCityFC Academy Manager @Gavchesterfield after Academy graduates played 34% of first-team minutes last season.
Cardiff were 16th in the latest TGG Academy Productivity Rankings.

Great research by @RyanInghilterra.
It is amazing in these days of big money moves how far Academy players can go in the game and these Rankings prove it.

Many will be surprised how bad Vicario's shot-stopping numbers have been this season and the potential impact it has had on Spurs' point total.
With the table so tight could be the difference between relegation battle and mid-table.
Been experimenting with making visuals that are readable at a glance but still carry the details.
Here is one for Spurs, showing per manager xG vs xGA trends and per match results.
De Zerbi has clearly improved the defense already.
EPL penalties won and scored, 2025/26 season.
Aston Villa and Spurs haven't been awarded a single penalty 30 matches into the season..

Upper-right = best mix. High save rate + positive goals prevented per 90.
Henderson, Pickford, Martínez all in the strong zone.
Vicario, José Sá, Alisson in the opposite corner.
