Discover in our just published editorial how we evolved from a series of disconnected practices and progressively, but not yet completely, came to claim the name “physiotherapy”; which was invented by and for the medical profession ninety years earlier.

If you havent read this paper by @Peter_Stilwell @Anne_Hudon@keith_meldrum@MGabriellePage and @TH_Wideman go and read it now. It's wonderfully writted and will support you to question an area of pain care rarely discussed because of taboo: Suffering.
A short review:
Many people with widespread pain get labelled with multiple regional pain diagnostic labelling despite the evidence that co-occuring pain is usually not random and there are strong link to broader psychosocial factors.
https://t.co/4fuzl407bV
The relationship between depression & widespread pain is bidirectional and causal. Untreated depression is common and does a disservice to patients with pain.
https://t.co/5ZltGWnYZy
People with moderate-severe depression often find it very difficult to engage with exercise. We don't need more reviews telling us the benefits. We need more resources/services that actually help people get more active.

.@Surgeon_General says loneliness is our next public health epidemic https://t.co/y1A0yzeDei. Loneliness and social isolation are problems in chronic pain. We showed this in our study showing the relationship of social isolation on pain interference https://t.co/NrbrVDWYcg.
@laurarathbone Thanks Laura! It was such a honour to have those physio participants be so openly vulnerable with me. I was glad I was able to capture some of that in the final article. I’m looking forward to reading what will come out of your research 😊
