@corachsamason You’re comparing a best-case day to someone else’s guaranteed hourly wage that’s not really apples to apples. That £167 is a riding fee, not a salary.
No rides = no pay. Many jockeys are fighting for bookings, especially outside the top tier, and plenty barely scrape a living.

@corachsamason the rest are grinding for fairly modest earning. They’re effectively small businesses: paying their own expenses, taxes, and dealing with uncertainty year-round.
And the danger isn’t theoretical it’s part of the job every single ride.

@corachsamason They don’t get paid for all the hours behind the scenes early mornings riding out, keeping weight down, constant travel. One bad fall can wipe out months of income, and there’s no safety net like most jobs. Only a tiny percentage make the big prize money people imagine.
